SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse defensive backs Antwan Cordy and Jordan Martin will miss the rest of the season due to injury, Orange head coach Dino Babers said today.
Â
Babers confirmed reports that Cordy, a redshirt junior, will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a lower-leg injury during the 2017 opener Sept. 1 against Central Connecticut State.
Â
Martin, a graduate transfer from Toledo, recently underwent season-ending surgery on his wrist. Martin was hurt during the first half of Syracuse's 27-24 victory against Clemson on Oct. 13. He returned in the second half against the Tigers, but saw limited action the following week at Miami. Â Â
Â
Syracuse's starting free safety, Cordy has played in just three games the past two seasons. In 2016, he received a medical redshirt after missing the final 10 games of the year because of an injury to his forearm sustained in Week 2 against Louisville. Cordy returned to the field for this year's opener versus Central Connecticut State, but left the game in the first quarter when he was injured attempting to make a tackle.
Â
In 26 career games, Cordy has 87 tackles and seven passes defended. As a sophomore in 2015, he logged 68 tackles and set the school record for the most tackles for loss by a defensive back (12).
Â
Martin, who replaced Cordy in the lineup at free safety, concludes his collegiate career with 99 tackles in 42 games, including 25 in eight games for the Orange this season. He also recorded three pass breakups and one forced fumble in 2017.
Â
Syracuse (4-4, 2-2 ACC) returns to action Saturday, Nov. 4 at Florida State (2-5, 2-4 ACC). Kickoff is set for 12:20 p.m. on the ACC Network.
