SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse tennis junior Gabriela Knutson finished the fall season ranked No. 17 in the final Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings. Knutson is the highest-ranked tennis player in Syracuse program history
Knutson is coming off the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships where she went 3-2 against the best women's tennis players in the nation. While she faced a narrow defeat in the round of 64 to open the Fall Championships, Knutson won three straight matches in the consolation singles, streaking all the way to the semi-finals. The junior was bested by Anna Bright from California to end her Fall Nationals run.
Sophomore Miranda Ramirez also received a nod from the ITA, coming in at No. 16 in the Doubles Rankings, alongside Knutson. The pair jumped 31 spots from their previous spot at No. 47 in the preseason poll. Knutson and Ramirez competed in the Doubles completion at the Fall Nationals, but were edged out in the round of 32 by a duo from Loyola Marymount University.
Knutson, Ramirez and the rest of the Orange wrapped up their fall season on Nov. 5 and will have time to train and recuperate before opening the 2018 campaign in the new year.
