LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced yesterday that they have agreed to a contract with former Syracuse defensive tackle Arthur Jones.
Â
To make room for Jones on the active roster, the Redskins placed safety Stefan McClure on injured reserve.
Â
A seven-year NFL veteran, Jones was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He spent four seasons with the Ravens, starting 20 games over his final three years with the team, and helping them to a victory against San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.
Â
Following the 2013 season, Jones signed a five-year, $33 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts. In three seasons with the Colts, Jones played in 17 games. He missed all of 2015 with an ankle injury. Jones returned to the field last season and appeared in eight games. He was released by Indianapolis in March.
Â
In his 63-game pro career, Jones has 172 tackles, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Â
At Syracuse, Jones was a four-year letterwinner (2006-09) and three-time All-BIG EAST selection. He tallied 145 career tackles and still ranks fourth on the Orange all-time list with 38.5 tackles for loss.
Â
The Redskins are currently 3-4. They head to Seattle this weekend for a matchup with the Seahawks. Like Washington, Seattle recently signed a former Syracuse star defensive lineman. The Seahawks inked Dwight Freeney to a one-year deal last week.
