SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse wide receiver Steve Ishmael picked up two more All-America awards on Monday, Dec. 11. The Orange standout earned second-team honors from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and third-team recognition from the Associated Press.
Â
Today's accolades are latest for Ishmael, who was named to SB Nation's All-America First Team and the Walter Camp All-America Second Team last week.
Â
Ishmael is the second player in Syracuse history to garner FWAA All-America honors at the wide receiver position, joining 1979 first-team selection Art Monk in that distinguished category. Two more Orange receiving greats – Qadry Ismail (1991) and Marvin Harrison (1995) – previously earned first-team honors from the association as kick returners.
Â
Following Amba Etta-Tawo's third-team selection last season, Ishmael's AP honor marks the second year in a row an Orange wide receiver has earned All-America plaudits from the service.
Â
Ishmael leads the ACC and ranks among the national leaders in receptions (2nd - 105), receptions per game (t-1st - 8.8), receiving yards (4th - 1,347) and receiving yards per game (4th - 112.3). He also caught seven touchdowns in 2017.
Â
Remarkably consistent throughout the year, Ishmael posted a school-record eight 100-yard receiving games and tallied at least 70 yards receiving in 10 out of 12 contests. The Miami, Fla. native had at least 10 receptions in six different games, and his 105 catches ranks second in ACC single-season history.
Â
The Associated Press and FWAA are two of the five All-America selectors used to determine the NCAA's consensus team. The others are the Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Sporting News. The AFCA and Sporting News will release their All-America teams later this week.
