#2 Kansas Downs 'Cuse in Hoophall Miami Invite

MIAMI, Fla. – Sophomore Tyus Battle scored a team-high 22 points to lead Syracuse (6-1) in its 76-60 setback to No. 2 Kansas (7-0) on Saturday night at the AmericanAirlines Arena in the Miami Hoophall Invitational.
Junior Frank Howard posted 15 points with seven assists and freshman Oshae Brissett finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Devonte Graham led the Jayhawks with 35 points and five assists. Graham shot 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) from the field and 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from 3-point range.
How It Was Decided
A Bourama Sidibe bucket left Syracuse trailing 57-47 and Kansas answered with a 7-0 run to open up a 17-point advantage with 8:18 remaining. The Orange were unable to cut the deficit to any lower than nine during the remainder of the game.
Game Summary
Brissett hit a 3-pointer to give Syracuse an early 6-5 advantage. Kansas answered with four straight points and Brissett drained another trey to level the game at nine.
A Battle layup with 7:10 tied the game at 16 but the Jayhawks went on a 19-5 run, fueled by 14 points from Graham, to enter halftime with a 35-21 advantage.
Kansas scored six straight points to start the second half and held a 49-31 lead with 16:07 to play. Syracuse cut the deficit to seven with an 11-0 run. Howard knocked down a 3-pointer followed by six points from Battle and a Brissett layup.
The Jayhawks led 64-47 with 8:18 to play and the Orange made one last push. Six Syracuse free throws along with a jumper from Howard pulled the Orange within nine. Kansas used an 8-1 over the final 3:51 to seal the victory.
Of Note
Syracuse outrebounded Kansas 36-31 in the contest and 15-7 on the offensive glass, but the Orange were unable to take advantage of the second chance opportunities. The Jayhawks held a 10-9 advantage in second chance points.
Kansas shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field, while Syracuse connected on 32.1 (18-of-56) percent of its attempts.

Syracuse matches up with Connecticut on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in the Jimmy V Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.
