Syracuse Football Announces 2018 Early Signees
12/20/2017 6:01:00 PM | Football
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A total of 15 high school and junior college football players signed National Letters of Intent with Syracuse University on Wednesday, Dec. 20, the first day of college football's new early signing period.
Â
They are the majority of the Orange's 2018 incoming class, which will also include players who make their college decisions official during the regular signing period that begins on Feb. 7, 2018.
Â
Today's crop of signees includes four wide receivers, three linebackers, three offensive linemen, three defensive backs, one quarterback and one tight end. Eight states and the District of Columbia are represented, with four players coming from New York, two from Florida, two from Washington, D.C., two from Texas and one each from Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington.
Â
Currently, the class is ranked 44th nationally (seventh in the ACC) by the recruiting website 247Sports.com. The group is on pace to be Syracuse's highest-rated class since 2002.
Â
Three players – WR Ed Hendrix, OL Qadir White and DB Trill Williams – earned four stars from one of the major recruiting services. Williams (No. 169) and White (No. 184) are among 247Sports.com's list of the nation's top 247 prospects.
Â
Of the 15 signees, four high school seniors are expected to enroll in January and participate in spring practice. They are: QB Chance Amie, DB Andre Cisco, DB Cam Jonas and LB Juan Wallace. Junior college linebacker Lakiem Williams also plans to enroll next semester. Â
Â
"Two-thirds of the class is done. We still have one-third to finish up in February," Syracuse head football coach Dino Babers said. "We think we're off to a great start and we really like where we're at."
Â
The addition of the early signing period changed college football's recruiting calendar and Babers believes the adjustments made have been to Syracuse's benefit.
Â
"It's (the early signing period) good for an institution like Syracuse," Babers said. "We signed some individuals who we feel are excellent football players and I think as the recruiting process moves into February, we would have had a lot of difficulty holding on to some of these young men, but now they're all signed, sealed and delivered. Some of them will have the opportunity to enroll in January, which is a huge advantage."
Â
Syracuse football season tickets for 2018 are on sale now and include home games against Wagner, Connecticut, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina and NC State. Tickets start at $125. They are available online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office. Seat locations for all new season tickets purchased in premium areas will not be assigned until after the March 9, 2018 deadline for renewals. Non-premium seat purchases will be allocated immediately.Â
