Orange head coach to provide analysis of College Football Playoff semifinals
BRISTOL, Conn. – For the second year in a row, Syracuse head football coach Dino Babers will lend his expert insight and analysis to ESPN for the network's coverage of the College Football Playoff (CFP).
Â
Babers will be live in ESPN's Charlotte, N.C. studio on New Year's Day for the "Coaches Film Room," which will air with limited commercial interruption on ESPNEWS. Babers, Brett Bielema, Larry Fedora (North Carolina), Dana Holgorsen (West Virginia), Matt Luke (Ole Miss) and Gary Patterson (TCU) are among the coaches who will break down the Rose Bowl featuring No. 3 Georgia and No. 2 Oklahoma (5 p.m.) and the Sugar Bowl between No. 1 Clemson and No. 4 Alabama (8:45 p.m.).
Â
The "Coaches Film Room" is part of ESPN's "MegaCast," and will feature the coaches examining both games from multiple camera angles, using clicker technology and telestration, to provide analysis of what's happening on the field.
Babers made his film room debut last season for the CFP National Championship Game between Clemson and Alabama.
Â
The only head coach to guide his team to a victory over Clemson this season, Babers brings a unique perspective to the Sugar Bowl in particular. Led by quarterback Eric Dungey, who threw three touchdown passes, the Orange handed the Tigers a 27-24 loss on Oct. 13 at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse racked up 440 yards of offense against the Tigers' formidable defense to break Clemson's 20-game winning streak against ACC Atlantic Division opponents.
Â
This year's "MegaCast" production of the CFP semifinals features 10 additional game presentations. The traditional Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl telecasts are set to air on ESPN with alternate viewing options available on ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network and multiple ESPN3 feeds. Each presentation will be available on the WatchESPN App.
Â
In addition to the "Coaches Film Room," alternate presentations include the "Command Center Telecast" (ESPN2), "Finebaum Film Room" (SEC Network), "Data Center" (ESPN Goal Line) and "All 22" (ESPN3).
Â
Babers recently completed his second season at Syracuse and owns a 45-32 record in six years as a head coach. In his two seasons with the Orange, he's produced two All-American wide receivers (Amba Etta-Tawo and Steve Ishmael) and eight players who have combined for 16 All-ACC selections. Babers was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week on Oct. 17 following the Clemson victory.
