Syracuse defeats North Carolina, 83-64
CONWAY, S.C. – The No. 21/20 Syracuse women's basketball team kicked off Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament play with an 83-64 win over North Carolina on Thursday night. Syracuse will take on No. 13/11 Duke in the quarterfinals on Friday at 8 p.m.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Orange came out with a roaring start, outscoring the Tar Heels, 30-23, in the first 10 minutes of play. By the end of the first half, Syracuse held an 11-point advantage with senior guard Alexis Peterson scoring 20 of the total team's points.
In the third period, the Orange continued to dominate, scoring another 33 points to end the quarter ahead, 78-56.

"Obviously we're in the tournament to survive. That's what we wanted to do. I thought that our kids really played tough. This was a game that we knew we had to be tough to win the game."
OF NOTE
Peterson, redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes, and senior center Briana Day all scored at least 10 points for the ninth consecutive game. Syracuse owns a 7-2 overall record in that span.
Peterson finished with a team-high 29 points and dished out six assists. The Columbus, Ohio native is one helper shy of matching the program all-time assists record.
Sykes (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Day (11 points, 15 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles against the Tar Heels on Thursday night.
