Syracuse Stays No. 1 in Both Polls
4/24/2017 3:29:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
The Syracuse men's lacrosse team remained No. 1 in both polls on Monday, ahead of this weekend's ACC Tournament.
In the USILA Poll, Syracuse received 18 of the 19 first place votes from the coaches, which was good for 379 of the available 380 points. Denver checked in at No. 2 (336 points), followed by Ohio State (321 points, one first place vote), Duke (313 points) and Maryland (299 points).
Syracuse's opponent for the ACC Semifinal, North Carolina, is No. 18 in this week's ranking. Previous SU opponents represented in the poll include No. 4 Duke, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Albany, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 14 Army and Binghamton (receiving votes). Including the Orange's first matchup with UNC, Syracuse is 5-1 against teams currently ranked in the top-20.
The top-five teams mirrored the USILA poll in this week's Maverik Media Poll with just a switch in the order. Syracuse obtained 656 points and 30 of the 33 first place votes from the media, where they were followed by Denver (602 points, one first place vote), Duke (589 points, two first place votes), Ohio State (536 points) and Maryland (506 points).
North Carolina checks in at No. 20 in the Maverik Media Poll.
The Orange and Tar Heels will square off in a rematch of last week's overtime thriller at 6 p.m. on Friday. That game will be televised on ESPNU.
