Brissett Signs Syracuse NLI

Syracuse head men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim has announced that Oshae Brissett has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the Orange next season.

A 6-8, 195 forward from Mississauga, Ontario, Brissett competed at Athlete Institute Prep this past winter. He was named the BioSteel All-Canadian High School Player of the Year during an awards ceremony at the BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Game on April 10. Brissett had 20 points and six rebounds in the contest.

Athlete Institute reached the semifinals of the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Playoffs in early April. The team's season ended in a 97-88 loss to The Rise Academy, a game in which Brissett tallied 27 points. The Bears, coached by Chris Cobbina, completed the year with a 24-9 overall record, including an 18-14 league mark.

Brissett earned first-team All-OSBA recognition. He averaged 22.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, according to media accounts. ESPN.com has Brissett ranked as a four-star and Scout.com and 247Sports.com a three-star recruit in the Class of 2017.

Prior to enrolling at Athlete Institute, Brissett attended Findlay Prep (Las Vegas, Nev.) for three years and played for Coach Andy Johnson.

Syracuse previously announced that Bourama Sidibe, a center at St. Benedict Prep (N.J.), and Athlete Institute product Howard Washington, a guard, had signed National Letters of Intent.                                                            Â

The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
