Orange Duo Earn ACC Weekly Honors
4/3/2017 4:56:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
After leading the Orange to a win over previously No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday, Nick Mariano and Scott Firman were honored for their play with player of the week honors.
For Mariano, it's the second-straight week he's earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Firman collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades, one week after Evan Molloy was given the honor.
Mariano scored four goals on Saturday for the Orange, including the two fourth quarter tallies that halted a 3-0 Notre Dame run and gave 'Cuse 10-9 and 11-9 leads. A child and family studies major at the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Mariano leads the Orange with 30 points (19-11) on the season.
Firman held Notre Dame's top-offensive threat Ryder Garnsey to just two points (1-1) on the day to anchor the 'Cuse defense. Garnsey entered the weekend averaging nearly five points per game, while the Orange defenseman held him to factoring in two third quarter goals on Saturday. A management major at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Firman is playing his first season on close defense after spending his first-three seasons on campus as an LSM.
Mariano, Firman and the Orange return to action on Wednesday at Hobart. Face off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on Spectrum Sports.
