Wildhack, Babers and Hillsman make stop in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 2017 Syracuse Athletics 'No Huddle Tour' kicked off on Thursday night with a stop at the 58th annual Syracuse University Rochester Alumni Club Annual Awards Dinner at the Monroe Golf Club. Director of Athletics John Wildhack was joined by head football coach Dino Babers and women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman at the first stop of the annual tour.
Â
During dinner, nationally recognized sportswriter Scott Pitoniak '77 hosted a Q & A with Babers, Hillsman and Wildhack. The Orange trio touched on a variety of topics, including the importance of the Rochester area to Syracuse's success, upcoming seasons and the future of Syracuse Athletics.
Â
"It is great for us to be in the Rochester market tonight with the 'No Huddle Tour'," said Wildhack. "This market is incredibly important to our University and athletic department. We have a great alumni base in the Rochester area. We have a great fan base in the Rochester area. It is one we really want to serve and really connect with."
Â
"It is great being here in an area that has been supportive of our program," added Hillsman. "It is an amazing opportunity to shake some hands of people that really support your program and to see some familiar faces of people that come to our games and support everything we do. This area has been extremely great to us."
Â
Both the football and women's basketball programs are looking to put together strong seasons on their respective playing surfaces. The football team enters its second season with Babers at the helm, while the women's basketball squad is coming off its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Â
"It is going to be a fantastic year," said Babers. "Coach Q has got an outstanding team and done a great job rebuilding his Final Four team. Of course, Coach Boeheim is doing an outstanding job. Mr. Wildhack has been unbelievable since he has been here, on board with us. We are excited to be here. We are excited about the opportunities we have athletically and academically with the football team we have coming back."
Â
"We signed the No. 2 class in the country, so we have a lot of talent coming in," said Hillsman. "We need to replace a lot of talent with Alexis (Peterson), Brittney (Sykes), Briana (Day), and Isabella (Slim) leaving. We lost 11 great players in two years. We have done a good job in getting athletes to come in and play our style."
Â
Orange Athletics will be part of Syracuse University Day at Citi Field on Sunday, June 4. Athletics staff, former Orange student-athletes and Otto will interact with alumni and fans in the SU Orange Zone in Bullpen Plaza prior to the game between the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Â
Head men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim will join Wildhack for a 'No Huddle Tour' stop in Albany on Thursday, June 29 at Wolf's 1-11 Restaurant. Click here to purchase your ticket.
Â
In August, the 'No Huddle Tour' will stop at NBT Bank Stadium for the game between the Syracuse Chiefs and Durham Bulls on Thursday, Aug. 17. The night will prominently feature Syracuse University Athletics, including Orange-themed giveaways in the concourse.
Â
