Seven Syracuse track and field student-athletes – three men and four women - were rewarded for their work in the classroom and on the field Wednesday, earning All-ACC Academic Team honors.
Colin Bennie (Public Administration), Adam Palamar (Psychology), and Aidan Tooker (Communications & Rhetorical Studies) were honored from the Orange men, while Danielle Delgado (Public Health), Shannon Malone (Political Science), Paige Stoner (Selected Studies Eductaion), and Tia Thevenin (Psychology) received the honor among the 'Cuse women.
The list includes five 'Cuse student-athletes who earned All-America honors on the track this season between indoor and outdoor. This is Bennie's third-consecutive year making the All-ACC Academic Team. Tooker earned his first nomination to the squad in his first year with 'Cuse.
Bennie, a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second-straight year, picked up USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this month, with his 20th place finish in the 10k. He also earned All-ACC accolades with a sixth-place finish in the event at the ACC Championships. Bennie enters his senior season at 'Cuse with six All-America nods including cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.
Delgado wrapped up her junior season with All-ACC honors in the 400-meter hurdles following setting a new PR of 58.50 at the event. She also took 12th in the 100 hurdles at the meet as well. She then qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary, where she took 18th, just shy of making the NCAA Championship.
Malone also came just short of qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the 10k. She finished the year with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA East Prelim, when she ran to a personal-best time of 34:08.98. She also earned All-ACC honors in the event this season, after taking fourth at the ACC Championship.
Palamar, another CoSIDA Academic All-American this year, followed up his fifth place finish in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships by posting a mark of 3:42.70 in the 1500-meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational and earned All-ACC honors with a fourth place finish in the event at the ACC Championship.
Stoner earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase after taking 15th at the NCAA Championship. She raced to a new school record in the process, crossing the line in 10:02.65. Stoner also took bronze at the ACC Championship in the event.
Thevenin earned All-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles after racing to back-to-back PRs at the NCAA East Prelim to qualify for Eugene. Her time of 13.27 seconds earned her a spot in the NCAA Championship after she had taken sixth at the ACC Championship earlier in the year.
Tooker concluded his standout freshman campaign with Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase. After finishing second at the ACC Championship in the event, he ran to a new personal best time at the NCAA East Preliminary (8:39.34), before finishing 21st at the NCAA Championship.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
