ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Former Syracuse standout Melissa Piacentini accepted a position as an assistant coach with the Rochester Institute of Technology women's ice hockey team, as announced Monday by Head Coach Scott McDonald. Piacentini, a 2016 Syracuse graduate, spent the last year under a one-year contract playing for EV Bozen in the Italian League.
Piacentini is the all-time points leader in 'Cuse program history, notching 112 points in 144 games played for the Orange. She paces the program in goals scored (53), plus/minus (+60) and is tied for first in career assists with current 'Cuse senior Stephanie Grossi (59).
The Weymouth, Mass. native helped Syracuse to back-to-back CHA Tournament final appearances, one of which came during her senior season in 2016 when she was co-captain of the team. Piacentini tallied nine goals and 21 assists for 30 points her senior season, earning her CHA Player of the Year honors and a spot on the CHA Second Team.
Excellence on and off the ice was a large part of Piacentini's career, as she earned all-conference honors three consecutive seasons in addition to being named to the CHA All-Academic Team three of her four years at Syracuse. In 2016, she won the Syracuse 8 Courage Award and was a nominee for the Doris Soladay Award.
During her time with EV Bozen, Piacentini ranked ninth in the league in points (18) and tied for sixth in the league in goals (11). She notched six assists and a +16 plus/minus ratio in 14 games played.
