TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Orange senior wide receiver Ervin Philips has been named to the 2017 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, released by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation on Tuesday, July 18. The award is named after legendary Florida State and Oakland Raiders star Fred Biletnikoff and is presented to the nation's outstanding receiver regardless of position.
Â
Philips is one of six receivers from the Atlantic Coast Conference to make the 45-player watch list. He's joined by Clemson's Deon Cain, Virginia Tech's Cam Phillips, Duke's T.J. Rahming, Miami's Ahmmon Richards and Pittsburgh's Jester Weah.
Â
An All-ACC Honorable Mention choice last season, Philips exploded with 90 catches for 822 yards and six touchdowns in Syracuse's first year under head coach Dino Babers. The West Haven, Conn. native ranked eighth nationally in receptions per game (7.5) and tied Art Monk's single-game record with 14 grabs in the season opener against Colgate. Philips is second among active ACC receivers in career receptions (134) and seventh in yards (1,165). His 134 catches are tied with Jarrod West for fifth on Syracuse's all-time ledger.
Â
The 10 Biletnikoff Award semifinalists will be determined on Nov. 13 and the three finalists will be selected on Nov. 21. The winner will be announced Dec. 7 on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show. This year's recipient will be presented with the trophy at the Fred Biletnikoff Award Banquet, which takes place in the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Feb 10, 2018. Orange legend Floyd Little is scheduled to serve as the banquet's keynote speaker.
