Knight to Kick Off Canadian Championships Thursday
7/6/2017 9:53:00 AM | Track and Field
Syracuse standout Justyn Knight will kick off the 2017 Canadian Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Ottawa, Ontario.
Knight, who posted the fourth-fastest collegiate 5k time ever and finished third in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this season, enters the meet with the second-fastest seed time behind two-time Olympian Mohammed Ahmed, who took fourth in Rio de Janiero.
The two-time defending ACC Champion, Knight's race will get underway at 8:55 p.m.
In addition to Knight, Tia Thevenin and Adam Palamar also qualified to compete in the Canadian Championships and will race on Saturday.
Thevenin, who's coming off an All-American track season that saw her qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in her career, will race on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the 100-meter hurdles against a pair of Olympians.
Her PR time of 13.27 seconds, which was set at the NCAA East Preliminary meet, serves as the sixth-fastest seed time in the event.
Palamar, who placed fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships this season, but saw his outdoor season cut short due to injury in the NCAA prelims, qualified in the 1500-meters, which will run on Saturday at 10 a.m.
His mark of 3:39.49 would be the third-fastest time in the event, just behind 2016 Olympian Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, who took 16th in Rio de Janiero.
