Redskins Sign Ron Thompson

WASHINGTON – Former Orange defensive end Ron Thompson signed with the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Aug. 13, according to the team. In addition to Thompson, the Redskins also added offensive lineman Kendall Pace, while releasing safety Tim Scott and receiver Kendal Thompson in corresponding moves.
Thompson, who projects as an outside linebacker, is one of 12 former Orange on current NFL training camp rosters.

In three seasons for SU from 2013-15, Thompson tallied 87 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and forced six fumbles. An All-ACC Third Team selection as a junior in 2015, Thompson totaled 35 tackles and led the Orange with seven sacks that season He also caused four fumbles, tied with Florida State's DeMarcus Walker for the conference lead.

Thompson declared early for the 2016 NFL Draft and signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent. He was released by the Colts last September.

The Redskins lost their opening preseason game 23-3 to the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 10. They continue preseason action Saturday, Aug. 19 against the Green Bay Packers.
