NEW ORLEANS – Orange junior quarterback Eric Dungey was named to the watch list for the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The award is presented to the top quarterback in the country following bowl season.
Â
For Dungey, it's his third watch list nod of the summer. In July, he was included on the watch lists for the Maxwell Award (nation's outstanding player) and the Davey O'Brien Award (nation's outstanding quarterback).
Â
Dungey set the SU sophomore records for most passing yards (2,679) and most yards of total offense (2,972) in 2016. He completed 230-of-355 passes with 15 touchdowns and ranked sixth nationally in completions per game (25.6), 12th in passing yards per game (297.7) and 13th in completion percentage (64.8). Dungey threw for at least 300 yards six times in the eight full games he played and topped the 400-yard mark against both Connecticut and Boston College.
Â
In 17 career games, Dungey has passed for 3,977 yards and 26 touchdowns. The Lake Oswego, Ore. native holds the SU career records for most passing yards per game (233.9) and most yards of total offense per game (271.8).
Â
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. The 10 finalists for the award will be released on Nov. 30, with the winner selected by a voting panel of national media and each of the Mannings, the week after the College Football Playoff National Championship.
