8/24/2017 10:23:00 AM | Track and Field
Orange rising senior Tia Thevenin is set to compete in the World University games on Friday in the 100-meter hurdles in Taiwan.
Representing Canada, Thevenin qualified for the team following her strong performance at the Canadian National Championships, with a personal-best mark of 13.27 seconds. The qualification into the event signals the culmination of a phenomenal junior outdoor season, which saw her earn Honorable Mention All-America honors and set back-to-back personal bests at the NCAA East Preliminary and get an opportunity to race at nationals.
Competing in the second heat on Friday, Thevenin will occupy lane four and square off with Greta Kerekes of Hungary, France's Laura Lise Valette, Chinese Taipei's Shih-Ting Lin, China's Lai Yiu Lui and Kazakhstan's Synazbekova Aigerim.
Thevenin has the third-fastest season time of the six runners in her heat. Only Kerekes (13.10) and Valette (13.04) have posted better times than her 13.27 mark.
The race is scheduled for 9:36 a.m. local time, which is 9:36 p.m. eastern.
Thevenin is looking to advance to Saturday's semifinals, with the final on Sunday.
