SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The five men's and women's Syracuse University teams that compete in the Carrier Dome will have a freshly renovated home as the Dome's locker room complex received a makeover during the summer. The home team locker room, home team coaches locker room and the athletic training rooms were renovated to improve the space for student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Â
"Providing an elite student-athlete experience is at the heart of everything that we do and every decision we make," said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "The Carrier Dome is one of the great venues in all of sports. This renovation project will enhance the experience for the student-athletes on our five teams that compete in the Dome."
Â
The planned design and construction will enhance the Syracuse experience for student-athletes on the Orange football, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's lacrosse teams. New lockers, furniture and carpeting, the installation of a new energy-efficient ventilation system and a raised ceiling, were among the initiatives aimed at modernizing the locker room space.
Â
"Our goal is to provide the best environment possible for our student-athletes from the moment they walk into the building until the time they leave," said Syracuse University Vice President & Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala. "The locker room is an important part of their experience. The timing is right for this stand-alone project."
Â
The locker room and athletic training room renovations are changes unrelated to the overall Carrier Dome renovation project.
Â
The 2017 Orange football team will be the first team to use the newly-renovated locker room when head coach Dino Babers' team begins the season on Friday, Sept. 1 against Central Connecticut State at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online ( Cuse.com/tickets ) and by phone (888-DOME-TIX).
