SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior wide receiver Steve Ishmael solidified himself as one of Syracuse's go-to guys with his performance yesterday against Middle Tennessee. Ishmael recorded his fourth career 100-yard receiving game by tying the school record with 14 receptions for 116 yards against the Blue Raiders.
Â
Ishmael, who had 12 catches in Week 1 versus Central Connecticut State, is the first player in program history with 11+ receptions in consecutive games. The Miami, Fla. native already has 26 receptions in 2017, more than half the number of catches he recorded in all of 2016 (48).
Â
Against Middle Tennessee, Ishmael was productive in the first half, making five catches for 51 yards to help Syracuse get out to a 13-9 lead. In the second half, Ishmael was even better, logging nine catches for 65 yards. His record-tying 14th grab came on Syracuse's last offensive play of the game to join Art Monk (vs. Navy, 1977) and teammate Ervin Philips (vs. Colgate, 2016) atop the Orange's single-game receptions ledger. Among FBS players, only NC State's Jaylen Samuels (15) and UCLA's Caleb Wilson (15) have more receptions in a game this year than Ishmael. Â
Through two games, Ishmael leads the nation in receptions per game (13.0). He ranks second in the ACC (9th in the FBS) in receiving yards per game (125.0) and is tied for eighth in the conference in all-purpose yards per game (126.0).
Â
Ishmael has rocketed up Syracuse's record list for career receptions and now ranks third with 140. He trails Philips who sits in second with 147 catches. The pair is chasing the school record of 201 set by Alec Lemon from 2009-12.
