Sophomore Carolin Bader scored her first career goal in victory over Fairfield
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team (4-1-1) posted its second consecutive shutout on Sunday in a 3-0 victory over Fairfield (2-3-0). Sophomore Carolin Bader scored her first career goal in the 31st minute of the match.
"We've been talking to the players a lot about taking their chances," said head coach Phil Wheddon. "One of the things we ask the players to do is to make our job as coaches difficult in selecting players to start the game. We have 23 go-to players and every one of them fights to be one of the first 11 and to get playing time."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
In her first career start, freshman Kate Donovan put the Orange just two minutes into the game, drilling the ball into the top far corner of the goal. Donovan now has three goals on the season and has scored in back-to-back games.
Bader gave 'Cuse the 2-0 lead after heading a corner kick from Jessica Vigna past the keeper for her first career goal. The sophomore is also riding a two-game point streak while Vigna tabbed her first assist of the year.
Sophomore Sydney Brackett scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 53rd minute after stopping an attempt to clear the ball and driving it into the net from outside the box. Strong play by the defense and the keepers allowed 'Cuse to hold onto the 3-0 lead for the remainder of the game.
OF NOTE
The Orange tallied 12 shots throughout the match, marking the fifth time this season that 'Cuse has posted double-digits in shots. Ten different Orange players tabbed a shot in the game with Donovan and Brackett pacing the team with two each.
