Orange Come Up Short Against Colgate
9/7/2017 10:08:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team (4-2-1) lost for the first time at home this season in a 1-0 setback against Colgate (2-4-0) Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan recorded three saves on the night for the Orange.
"This is the first game that I feel like we didn't show up and compete the way we wanted to in the first half," said head coach Phil Wheddon. "We possessed the ball well and we moved the ball well but we didn't necessarily posses with purpose."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Emily Crichlow drove the ball down the field for Colgate, setting up Mara Cosentino for a long range shot to the far corner of the goal, which gave the Raiders the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of the game.
OF NOTE
Syracuse posted nine shots on the night, six of which were on goal, with sophomore Taylor Bennett and senior Alana O'Neill leading the team with two shots apiece.
The Orange tied their season-high for corner kicks with six against Colgate. Sophomore Sydney Brackett took five of the six corners for 'Cuse.
UP NEXT…
The Orange will honor military members and their families during the military appreciation game on Sunday against Harvard. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and admission to all home games is free. The first 100 fans will receive complimentary military-themed sunglasses.
