
Orange, Demon Deacons Meet Sunday

Syracuse, N.Y. – The ninth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team heads south to take on Wake Forest (7-6, 1-3 ACC) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. The Orange (8-4, 1-3 ACC) are coming off a 4-2 win over California last Sunday.
Against Cal, Roos Weers, Chiara Gutsche and Claire Cooke all scored for the Orange. Gutsche and Weers lead the Orange this season with eight and seven goals, respectively. Cooke scored her first collegiate goal in a 2-1 win over No. 8 Boston College last Friday night securing the first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season.
Goalkeeper Borg van der Velde holds a .753 save percentage and has tallied 55 saves in 12 appearances with a 7-4 record in goal. Weers was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after scoring in back-to-back wins last weekend, including the OT game-winner against BC.
The Demon Deacons are 1-3 against ACC opponents and 3-5 against nationally-ranked teams. In the second game of the season, Wake Forest had a huge 3-2 upset against No. 5 Michigan at home. This season, Jule Grashoff leads Wake Forest with 12 goals and Megan Anderson has a team-best 16 assists. As a unit, Wake Forest averages 11.3 shots per game.
