
Dungey, Valelly Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Syracuse football's Eric Dungey and volleyball's Dana Valelly are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 15.

Dungey is a senior from Lake Oswego, Ore. who is majoring in accounting in the Martin J. Whitman Schoolar of Management. He is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a 2016 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. Earlier this season, Dungey was named to the Maxwell Award watch list and is a candidate for the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Senior CLASS Award.

Dungey holds or shares 14 Syracuse school records and is one of two active FBS quarterbacks with more than 7,000 career passing yards and 1,000 career rushing yards. Through six games this season, he has thrown for 1,208 yards this season and totaled 17 touchdowns. Dungey ranks 15th nationally averaging 17 points responsible for per game.

Valelly is a junior from Dallas, Texas who is double majoring in Real Estate and Finance in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. She earned 2016-17 ACC Academic Honor Roll honors and is a two-time member of the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll. A setter, Valelly recorded a career-high 16 digs in Syracuse's match against Florida State last weekend. Syracuse is 10-6 (6-2 ACC) this season.

Dungey and the Syracuse football team return to the Carrier Dome this weekend as they welcome North Carolina for the annual Orange Central/Homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Tickets for the game start at $35 and are on sale online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX), and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).

Valley and the volleyball team continue their four-game homestand as they host North Carolina Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m and NC State Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches are free admission and will be broadcast on ACCN Extra.
