SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange's final road trip of the season starts at No. 6 Virginia Thursday night, when the Syracuse women's soccer team plays the nationally-ranked Cavaliers at 7 p.m. inside Klöckner Stadium. The match will be televised on ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN.
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange celebrated the careers of senior forward Drina Domic and redshirt senior goaltender Jordan Harris Saturday night at SU Soccer Stadium, but could not complete Senior Night with a win, losing 5-1 against Notre Dame.
Junior midfielder Georgia Allen scored Syracuse's lone goal in the 72nd minute.
ON THE SCOREBOARD
Syracuse has scored goals in three straight ACC matches, dating back to the Oct. 4 against NC State. The Orange scored three times against the Wolfpack, once against UNC (Oct. 7) and once more against Notre Dame (Oct. 13).
The last time the Orange scored in three consecutive ACC matches was 2016, when they closed out the season with goals in six straight ACC matches.
ROOT SHOWING UP ON THE BIGGEST STAGE
Freshman forward Meghan Root's first two goals of her collegiate career both came against ranked opponents.
She settled a header from sophomore midfielder/forward Kate Hostage and fired a shot into the back of the net in the 28th minute against North Carolina. Prior to that, she scored the first of her career in the 65th minute against NC State.
A LOOK AROUND THE CONFERENCE
The ACC has five women's soccer teams among the United Soccer Coaches poll, the most of any league – including three teams ranked among the top 10: No. 3 North Carolina, No. 6 Virginia, No. 8 Boston College, No. 11 Duke, and No. 13 Florida State.
Virginia Tech is No. 20 in the Soccer America poll giving the ACC a total of six ranked teams this week.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
No. 6 Virginia is coming off a 7-0 win against Pittsburgh, their fourth victory in a row. Freshman forward/midfielder Rebecca Jarrett leads the team with six goals and 13 points.
Syracuse is 0-4-0 all-time against Virginia. The Orange lost last year's matchup in Syracuse, N.Y. by the score of 3-1.
HEAR FROM COACH WHEDDON
"We've got a job to do. UVA's No. 6 in the country, and they do some very good things. They'll present different problems. We'll take this game and try to get points. That's our goal, and that's been our goal all the way along. Get points in the ACC."
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange complete their final road trip of the season at Wake Forest, next traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 showdown.
