Brissett, Newcomers lead Orange in Exhibition

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oshae Brissett's 22-points led the Syracuse men's basketball team to a 77-45 victory over the College of St. Rose in Thursday night's exhibition game at the Carrier Dome. A pair of newcomers, Elijah Hughes and Buddy Boeheim, contributed heavily with 19 points each. The trio each notched three three-pointers while Brissett led both teams with 14 rebounds.
Paschal Chukwu contributed double-digit rebounds with 11 and added five points and three blocks. Preseason All-ACC selection Tyus Battle recorded seven points and six assists.
COACH BOEHEIM SAYS
"I thought overall we did a lot of good things. I think they were a very good team for us to play. They handled the ball really well. They passed it well. They moved it really well on offense. They made us play defense. I think it was a very good game for us."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
A pair of baskets from Hughes helped Syracuse jump out to an early 6-0 lead to open the contest. Brissett completed a three-point play with a free throw extending the Orange's lead to 15-9. Syracuse had four consecutive free throws by Marek Dolezaj and Boeheim before back-to-back St. Rose baskets held the score at 19-16. A 10-2 run gave the Orange a 29-18 lead. Boeheim closed out the half with two three-pointers, including one at the buzzer, for a 39-24 lead at halftime.
St. Rose opened the second half scoring first with a layup by Michael Ward before Boeheim scored the Orange's first seven points of the half. A three-pointer from Brissett and Hughes' third dunk of the night pushed the Orange ahead 51-30. Hughes halted a 7-2 Golden Knights scoring run with a pair of three-pointers to give 'Cuse its largest lead to that point, 61-37. Three-straight layups from Hughes, Brissett and Battle kept the scoring going as the Orange took a 30-point lead, 71-41.

Syracuse hosts Division II LeMoyne Wednesday, Oct. 31 in its final exhibition match. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

- Syracuse was 14-of-18 (.778) from the line in the first half and finished 16-of-22 (.727) for the contest.
- The Orange outrebounded Saint Rose, 52-35. Brissett and Chukwu combined for 25 of the boards.
- Reserve center Bourama Sidibe had three points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in 16 minutes of play.
- Syracuse limited St. Rose to 18-of-61 (.295), including a 5-of-26 (.192) effort on 3-point attempts.
- Returning starter Frank Howard, a senior guard, sophomore guard Howard Washington and freshman guard Jalen Carey did not dress because of injuries.
