SYRACUSE, N.Y. – All eyes will be on Syracuse (5-2, 2-2 ACC) Saturday, Oct. 27, when the Orange host ACC Atlantic Division foe No. 22 NC State (5-1, 2-1 ACC) in a primetime contest inside the Carrier Dome. The matchup will air nationally at 7 p.m. on ESPN2, with Beth Mowins (play-by-play), Anthony Becht (analyst) and Rocky Boiman (field analyst) on the call.
Syracuse snapped its two-game losing streak last time out with a 40-37, double-overtime victory over North Carolina. At 5-2, the Orange are one win away from becoming bowl-eligible.
NC State, meanwhile, enters Saturday night's contest on the heels of its first loss of the season. The Wolfpack started 5-0 before falling to No. 3 Clemson 41-7 last Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY
The Syracuse-NC State series heavily favors the Wolfpack, with NC State winning 10 of their prior 11 meetings, including the last four. Since the Orange joined the ACC in 2013, NC State is 4-1 overall against Syracuse.
Syracuse's lone victory against came on Oct. 12, 2013 when it scored a 24-10 win at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. Syracuse rushed for 362 yards in the contest, its best effort on the ground to date in an ACC game.
DOME-INATION
Syracuse enters its penultimate home game perfect (4-0) in the Carrier Dome. Another home win would be the most for the program since the Orange finished their 2003 home slate with a 5-2 record.
Syracuse is 143-90-2 all-time in the Carrier Dome, including a 10-7 mark in the building under head coach Dino Babers. Since the facility opened in 1980, Syracuse has won five or more home games on nine occasions, including three perfect seasons (all 6-0) in 1987, 1988 and 2001.
SIGHTS SET ON BOWLING
A win on Saturday would make Syracuse 6-2 and subsequently bowl-eligible for the first time since 2013. Syracuse's four-year bowl drought tied for the second-longest among current Power-Five teams. Kansas (nine seasons) has the longest streak without a bowl appearance in the Power Five, while Oregon State has missed the postseason each of the last four years.
The Orange have previously appeared in 25 bowl games, holding a 15-9-1 record. Their .620 bowl winning percentage ranks eighth all-time.
Should Syracuse qualify for a bowl game, the 2018 Orange would be the third team Babers has led to the postseason in five years as an FBS head coach. He guided Bowling Green to bowls in 2014 and 2015, but did not coach in the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl after accepting the head job at Syracuse.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
Led by quarterback Ryan Finley, the NC State offense has been particularly effective through the air this season. The Wolfpack rank 12th nationally in passing yards per game (311.7).
Finley has thrown for 1,777 yards with 10 touchdown passes. He's been efficient as well, ranking 15th in the nation in completion percentage (.683) and seventh in completions per game (25.7).
Running back Reggie Gallaspy is the team's top ground-gainer. He has 383 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Wideouts Jakobi Meyers and Kelvin Harmon have been the most productive receiving duo in the conference. Meyers ranks seventh nationally with 7.6 receptions per game, and Harmon leads the ACC at 91.2 receiving yards per game.
Defensively, linebacker Germaine Pratt is first in the ACC at 9.5 tackles per contest. He has 57 total tackles, including three sacks.
UP NEXT
Syracuse hits the road to take on Wake Forest Saturday, Nov. 3. Kickoff between the Orange and the Demon Deacons is set for 12 p.m. on RSN.
