The Syracuse men's lacrosse team welcomed back over 50 of its alumni and played an intra-squad scrimmage in Saturday's Orange Alumni Classic.
Between a pair of goals each from Sergio Salcido and Mike Iocono, the White Legends took down the Blue Legends in the Alumni Game. During the intra-squad a balanced effort gave both squads some up-tempo play and an even contest. Eighteen different players scored a combined 22 goals in the intra-squad game.
The white team defeated the blue squad 13-9, with only Griffin Cook (2) scoring multiple goals for the white. The game was halted after three quarters.
"We played pretty fast today in both groups and I think with the shot clock its going to encourage that," said head coach John Desko. "I think it was really good to go against each other as opposed to the alumni today because everyone got to play a lot. Our guys got to participate in a scrimmage with officials and the shot clock and penalties. I think we made the most out of the day."
The game was knotted at five before a run from the white team opened things up, to ultimately give them a 13-9 final. After Jamie Trimboli evened the game up at five at the end of the first, Jacob Buttermore, Andrew Kim, Stephen Rehfuss, Griffin Cook and David Lipka rattled off five-straight goals for the white team to open a 10-5 lead.
Brendan Curry halted the run, albeit briefly, as Stephen Rehfuss and Dami Oladunmoye scored back-to-back tallies to open a 12-6 lead after two.
Justin Kim, Lucas Quinn and Bradley Voigt all scored for the Blue squad in the third and final period, but Cook's second of the day ended the hope of the comeback.
The White Legends also defeated the Orange Legends earlier in the day. The game featured alumni from seven decades of Syracuse lacrosse. The game was a back and forth affair, but a run of goals from Philip Kamisky, Salcido and Jordan Evans opened up a 9-6 lead, which the white team would hold onto to win 10-9. Brian Megill (2) and Kyle Henry (3) scored the bulk of the Orange tallies.
Syracuse closes out its fall slate at the Headstrong Tournament in Philadelphia next weekend.
