SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Massimo Ferrin recorded a season-high five points to lead Syracuse men's soccer to a 3-0 win against Ohio State at the SU Soccer Stadium. The victory extends the Orange's winning streak to three and improves their record to 6-4-1.
Â
Ferrin recorded two goals and an assist, while freshman Ryan Raposo added a goal and an assist for his fourth multiple-point match of the year. He now leads the team with 12 points this season.
Â
"There's a belief, an intensity, and tonight I think we limited a very hard-working Ohio State team to few chances," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "I thought we did a good job of trying to limit their opportunities. That starts with the front guys – a willingness to put pressure on – and the same for the guys in the midfield."
Â
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Ferrin and Raposo connected for Syracuse's first two goals. The first came in the 29th minute when Raposo served a cross into the box where he found Ferrin, who was making a run at the goal. The ball went off Ferrin into the net for the only goal Syracuse would need.
Â
The Orange added to the lead in 36th minute when Raposo found the top corner of the goal off an assist from Ferrin as Syracuse took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Â
The final goal came in the 84th minute. Again it was Ferrin doing the damage as he scored on an assist from freshman Nathaniel St. Louis, who was making his collegiate debut.
Â
OF NOTE
Syracuse goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert recorded his second straight clean sheet and third of the season. He now has 22 career shutouts, which move him into a tie for third place on the Orange's all-time leader list. The win was the 34th of Hilpert's career, which also rank fourth on Syracuse's career list.
Â
UP NEXT
Syracuse returns to ACC play on Friday, Oct. 12 when it goes back on the road to face No. 6 Louisville at 7 p.m.
