SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange moved up one spot in the latest College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, which were released Tuesday night on ESPN.
Â
Syracuse came in at No. 12 and remains the second-highest ranked team from the Atlantic Coast Conference behind No. 2 Clemson. The Orange, who are 8-2Â overall and 5-2 in conference play under third-year head coach Dino Babers, have been in all three editions of the CFP rankings. Syracuse debuted at No. 19 on Oct. 30 and were No. 13 last week.
In addition to their No. 12 CFP ranking, the Orange are No. 12 in both the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll and the latest Amway Coaches poll. Syracuse's AP ranking is its highest since being slotted 11th in the wire service's poll released on Sept. 28, 1998.
Overall, three ACC Atlantic Division teams were included in this week's CFP rankings. In addition to the Orange and Tigers, Syracuse's next opponent, Boston College (No. 20), appeared in the poll for the third straight week.
Syracuse enters Saturday's matchup versus Notre Dame, who is No. 3 in the CFP poll, on a four-game winning streak. The Orange and Irish square off at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. on NBC.
Alabama (No. 1), Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan (No. 4) made up the top four for the second week in a row. At the end of the season, the four highest-ranked teams advance to the College Football Playoff, which begins on Dec. 29.
Â
The CFP rankings are determined by a committee of 13 individuals with experience as coaches, student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors. The rankings are announced each Tuesday from Oct. 30 to Nov. 27, with the final rankings released on Sunday, Dec. 2.
