ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse (4-2) helped the ACC in the ACC/B1G Challenge this week with a 72-62 win over no. 16 Ohio State. The Orange had their best day shooting so far this year, draining 48.9 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from three. Junior Tyus Battle led the Orange with 20 points as he went 6-for-10 from the field. Redshirt sophomore Elijah Hughes added 18 points, while sophomore Oshae Brissett scored 14 and grabbed four rebounds.
BATTLE OF THE BOEHEIMS
While last year marked the first time Jim Boeheim coached against his son, Jimmy, this year a new twist is added to the matchup. Syracuse will have the Boeheim advantage as Buddy joined the Orange ranks this season. Last year, Jimmy played 26 minutes and added 11 points and five rebounds against his father's team.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is coming off an OT win against Lafayette on Wednesday, which improved its record to 4-3. The Big Red are currently on an extended road trip as Saturday's game is the team's fourth of five straight away games. Cornell is 3-1 on the road this season.
Â
Senior Matt Morgan currently leads the Big Red in scoring, averaging 23.6 points per game. He also has the team lead in rebounds, grabbing 6.4 per game, and steals (9). Sophomore Jimmy Boeheim averages 11.7 points per game, while senior Steven Julian leads Cornell with 20 assists and eight blocks.
Â
Brian Earl is in his third season leading the Big Red. Last season, he led Cornell to a 12-16 record, including a 6-8 mark in conference play. The Big Red qualified for the Ivy League Tournament, but were defeated in the semifinals by No. 1 seed Harvard. Cornell has four returning starters from last year's campaign.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's matchup marks the 124th game all-time between Syracuse and Cornell, making it the second most common matchup in program history. The Orange hold a 92-31 advantage in all-time meetings of the two teams. Syracuse currently has a 38-game win streak against Cornell as well as a 34-game win streak when the Orange are at home. The teams met in the season opener last year, and Jimmy Boeheim gave Cornell an early 3-0 lead. However, Syracuse didn't take long to respond, taking a 6-5 lead off a Frank Howard jumper and never looking back as it led 33-22 at halftime. The Orange continued to outshoot Cornell in the second half, leading to a 77-45 victory.
