
NCAA SECOND ROUND: Volleyball Faces off Against Penn State Saturday

Syracuse volleyball continues its historic run in the NCAA tournament Saturday evening in the second round. Action kicks off at 7 p.m.
The Orange walked away with a historic 3-0 sweep over Yale Friday evening on the campus of Penn State. The postseason spotlight did not bother freshman Polina Shemanova who led the Orange with 12 kills and 12 digs. Santita Ebangwese had an errorless performance with 10 kills on 15 attacks for a .667 hitting percentage. Amber Witherspoon also hit .667 with nine kills. The trio had their hands on 15 of the team's 16 blocks led by six from Witherspoon and five each from Shemanova and Ebangwese.
Penn State breezed through its first round match defeating Howard by set scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-8 with a season-best .474 hitting percentage. The team owns a 98-30 all-time record int he tournament including 13 appearances in the final four. The Nittany Lions lead the Big 10 and are eighth nationally with 2.86 blocks per set. Penn State has held opponents to a .168 hitting percentage this season, third-best in the Big 10.
The winner of Saturday's matchup advances to the regionals Dec. 14-16.
