Syracuse Dominates ECAC Football Awards

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its FBS football awards on Friday, Dec. 14 and Syracuse was well represented. The Orange won three of the five individual awards, placed 10 players on the All-ECAC First Team, and had three more receive honorable mention.

Senior quarterback Eric Dungey was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year. Freshman defensive back Andre Cisco won ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Dino Babers was voted the conference's Coach of the Year.

The other two individual awards went to Massachusetts linebacker Bryton Barr (Defensive Player of the Year) and Temple offensive lineman Adam Klein (Offensive Rookie of the Year).

Dungey, who has accounted for a school-record 32 touchdowns this season, joins Bill Hurley (1979) and Joe Morris (1980) as Syracuse performers who have been voted the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. Dungey is the ninth Orange standout overall to earn ECAC Player of the Year honors and first since Donovan McNabb in 1998.

Cisco, who is tied for the national lead with seven interceptions, is Syracuse's second ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Linebacker Dyshawn Davis received the award in 2011.

Babers joins Paul Pasqualoni as the only Syracuse mentors to win ECAC Coach of the Year. Pasqualoni took home the award in 1992, 1995 and 1996.

On the offensive side of the ball, the All-ECAC First Team included Dungey, wide receiver Jamal Custis and offensive linemen Airon Servais and Koda Martin.

The first-team defense featured ends Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson, linebacker Ryan Guthrie and Cisco.

Punter Sterling Hofrichter and kicker Andre Szmyt filled two of the three spots for specialists.

The honorable mention category included offensive lineman Cody Conway, defensive tackle Chris Slayton and linebacker Kielan Whitner.

The 17th-ranked Orange (9-3) will square off against No. 15 West Virginia (8-3) in the 2018 Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Fla. on Friday, Dec. 28. Bowl tickets and travel packages are available now at Cuse.com/Camping World.

New season ticket orders and renewals to watch Orange football in 2019 are also being accepted now. Tickets for next season's six-game home slate start at $100 for Syracuse University Young Alumni (Class of 2015 to Class of 2019 graduates) and $125 for the general public.
