Camp Notebook: Week 2

The Syracuse football team wrapped up its second week of camp on Saturday with a scrimmage in the JMA Wireless Dome. As the Orange football season gets closer – with just two more Saturday's without football in the Loud House – catch up on anything you might have missed from another busy week of fall camp.

Monday, Aug. 10
The pads came on for the first time in camp!
After the first padded practice, Head Coach Fran Brown spoke with the media for the third time thus far in camp, providing updates on the Orange thus far:
Tight Ends Coach Michael Johnson also met with the media and discussed his room:
Tuesday, Aug. 11
The team had it's off day of the week, but that didn't stop the preseason awards from continuing to roll in for the Orange.
Linebackers Chris D'Appolonia and Antoine Deslauriers were each named to Bruce Feldman's annual Freaks List. The two 'Cuse selections ties for the most in the ACC.
Additionally, DB/WR Demetres Samuel Jr. was added to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, which honors the most versatile player in college football.
Wednesday, Aug. 12
The Orange returned to the field for their seventh practice of training camp.
Afterwards, wide receivers coach Josh Gattis, quarterback Steve Angeli and wideout Umari Hatcher all spoke with the media:
The best Orange performer of Wednesday's practices might not have come in Syracuse though. In Dallas Cowboys camp, linebacker Justin Barron continued making a strong impression with three interceptions in a joint practice with the Rams.
Thursday, Aug. 13
With the first scrimmage approaching on Saturday, Thursday's practice was the last full-pad practice of the week leading up.
Super Bowl Champion Head Coach and Syracuse alum Tom Coughlin was also on hand this week, providing his insights to the Orange coaching staff as camp continued.
Friday, Aug. 14
Friday was a short and efficient practice in just helmets, spanning just over 90 minutes, to keep the team fresh for Saturday's scrimmage.
After practice, linebacker Chris D'Appolonia and defensive line coach John Scott Jr. stepped to the podium for interviews:
Saturday, Aug. 15 | Scrimmage 1
The Orange made their first trip to the Dome of the 2026 season, partaking in a closed scrimmage. Afterwards, Syracuse's season-ticket members had an exclusive meet the team event as a benefit of their continued support.
Nearly 1,000 fans took advantage of the benefit and partook in a sprawling line through Miron Victory Court. The team spent two hours signing autographs and taking photos with fans.
