Syracuse alum Jarret Eaton is the new United States Champion in the 60-meter hurdles with his personal-best performance on Sunday night in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Â
Eaton, who won the NCAA 60-meter hurdles championship in 2012, now qualifies for the IAAF World Championships in Birmingham, U.K. later this season.
Eaton's time of 7.43 seconds is the world's second-fastest time of 2018, just 0.01 seconds off the world lead. He held off 2012 110-meter hurdles Olympic gold medalist Aries Merritt by 0.03 seconds and 2016 Olympic fifth-place finisher Devon Allen by 0.06 seconds to secure the win.
The win continues a stellar 2017-18 season for Eaton, who entered the meet with the third-fastest time in the world.
A fourth-place finisher in the 2016 IAAF World Championships, Eaton's school record in the 60-meter hurdles still stands today from his 2012 NCAA title season.
