
Burriss, Cunningham Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Marcus Cunningham of the men's lacrosse team and Alysha Burriss of the women's ice hockey team are this week's Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
A redshirt junior from Glen Ridge, N.Y., Cunningham is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology in the College of Arts and Sciences. Cunningham is a three-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll and has been tabbed to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in six consecutive semesters.
Cunningham suits up as a defender for the Orange, starting all 16 games on close defense during the 2017 season. The redshirt junior averaged 1.19 groundballs per game and caused at least one turnover in seven of 16 games in 2017.
A senior hailing from Napanee, Ontario, Burriss is a child and family studies major in the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Burriss was tabbed to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in the spring of 2017 and has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the past two semesters.
In her final season with the Orange, Burriss sits in fourth on the team in points (14) and tied for second on the team in assists (nine). She ranks fifth and sixth on the Orange all-time ledger for goals (38) and points (83), respectively.
Cunningham and the men's lacrosse team kick off the 2018 campaign against Binghamton on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m., while Burriss and the ice hockey team play RIT in a home-and-home series on Feb. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
