SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has announced that five players will join the Orange next fall.
Â
"It is wonderful to be able to welcome this exciting group into our Syracuse soccer family," McIntyre said. "It is a talented group of young men of the highest character, who have each succeeded on the soccer pitch and in the classroom. Each young man will take tremendous pride in representing Syracuse University, while fully embracing the challenges and demands that we place upon our student-athletes. I cannot wait to get to work with this group and quickly integrate them into our program."
Â
Hillel Goldhar – Toronto, Canada – Upper Canada College
Goldhar is a member of the Sigma FC program and most recently won the 2017 SAAC U20 Championship while also competing for Sigma FC in League 1 Ontario. He represented Canada in the 2017 Maccabi Games in Israel, and led Upper Canada College to an undefeated high school season during which he registered 12 goals and eight assists.
Â
"Hillel is an exciting, attacking player who is fun to watch," McIntyre said. "He possesses excellent balance, close technical control, and the ability to go past defenders. Hillel has a wonderful attitude and work ethic to complement his natural talent. I am looking forward to watching Hillel continue to grow as a player here at Syracuse."
Â
Sam Gomez – St. Louis, Mo. – Webster Groves High School
Gomez led Webster Groves to the Missouri State Championship in 2014 and 2015. In 2017 he was recognized as first-team All-State after posting nine shutouts and a .780 save percentage. The 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year for Missouri Class 3, Gomez plays club soccer for the Saint Louis Scott Gallagher ECNL team.
Â
"We are thrilled to be able to add Sam to our GK group," McIntyre said. "Sam came through our camp program working with Coach Masalin and he has the tools to be an elite goalkeeper. He has terrific feet, is an excellent shot stopper, and has a wonderful calmness and presence for a keeper of his age."
Â
Michael Lantry – Syracuse, N.Y. – Westhill High School
Lantry plays for the USSDA Empire United team and is rated the No. 137 recruit by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 4 recruit in New York. He is a versatile player appearing as both a central defender and defensive midfielder during the current season. In 2016-17, he scored eight goals in 18 games for the U16 Empire United academy team.Â
Â
"Michael is a talented player and we have closely observed his personal development over the last few years," McIntyre said. "It is very important for our coaching staff to be able keep our best local players home here at Syracuse and Michael has the drive, application and quality to be successful here at SU."Â
Â
Nathaniel St. Louis – Toronto, Canada – Subway 2 Academy
St. Louis is a member of the Vaughan Soccer Program and he has represented the Ontario Provincial Team. St. Louis has been recognized as the Ontario Youth Soccer League top goal scorer of the year on three separate occasions, and he led Markham Soccer Club to the 2016 OYSL Championship.
Â
"Nat has the skill, athleticism, and the physical tools to be successful here at Syracuse," McIntyre said. "He is a player who can glide past defenders when isolated against an opponent. He has the ability to select and execute the correct pass at the right time. Nat is a player that has a very high ceiling and he is a terrific complement to our current attacking players."Â Â
Â
Lennart Zeugner – Muenster, Germany, – Boston College
Zeugner transfers from Boston College where he was a three-year captain. Zeugner played in 35 games for Boston College and led the Eagles to the 2015 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight when he was recognized as an All-ACC Third Team honoree. A member and captain of the Borussia Dortmund academy prior to arriving in the United States, he was a member of the German U18 and U19 Youth National Team. Zeugner will be a graduate student here at Syracuse with one year of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Lennart is an experienced, talented player who will immediately add personality and leadership to our defense," McIntyre said. "He is an excellent passer of the ball and obviously understands the demands and rigors of competing within the ACC. We are delighted to be able to add Lennart to our team."
Â
This group of five players join Severin Soerlie and Ryan Raposo, who enrolled at Syracuse in January, to make up the 2018 recruiting class.
