Solomon, Kennedy, Mellen, Trimboli named All-Conference
Four members of the ACC Regular Season Champion Syracuse men's lacrosse team were honored for starring on the second-straight 'Cuse squad to sweep conference play in the regular season.
Brett Kennedy, Nick Mellen, Nate Solomon and Jamie Trimboli were voted to the All-ACC team by the league's head coaches. Syracuse's four selections trail just Notre Dame and Duke, who are each represented by five players on the team. The All-ACC selections for the 'Cuse group are all first-time honorees.
Â
Kennedy has saved his best work for ACC contests this season, breaking out in his second-collegiate start against Virginia with two goals and five ground balls. Kennedy has made six starts this season, appearing in all-12 games. The redshirt-freshman defender leads all field players in ground balls with 34 and ranks third on the Orange with 10 caused turnovers.
Mellen, an Inside Lacrosse All-American has faced a gauntlet of top attackmen this season, that includes five of the nation's top 11 scorers, including three of the top-four in points per game. Drawing the opponent's top weapon each game, Mellen has held his 12 offensive opponents to a point below their season averages in all other games. He also leads the team with 15 caused turnovers and has collected 24 ground balls.
Solomon is second on the Orange with 19 goals and 31 points. He has also collected 20 ground balls. The junior is averaging three points per game against conference opponents this season, most recently scoring four times in a win over North Carolina and adding two goals and two assists against Notre Dame.
Trimboli's season highlight also came in conference play, where the midfielder scored the game-winning goal against Duke. A sophomore flanked by a pair of freshmen on the Orange's top midfield line, Trimboli has led the unit all year. He's fourth on the team with 16 goals and 25 points, while also grabbing eight ground balls.
