SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's basketball team will host Old Dominion on Saturday, December 15, in a non-conference matchup.
Syracuse and Old Dominion have met three times previously, each during the tenure of current Orange head coach Jim Boeheim. Syracuse won the first pairing, 67-64, to claim the 1977 ECAC Upstate-Southern Championship. The Orange went on to the NCAA Tournament that season, Boeheim's first as head coach.
Old Dominion earned a 68-67, home-court victory against Syracuse in 1980-81, one of just two regular-season losses for the Orange that year. Syracuse returned the favor the following campaign, capturing a 71-58 decision.
The Monarchs were 25-7 overall and 15-3 in Conference USA, last season. Coach Jeff Jones, the former Virginia court boss, has logged five seasons at Old Dominion. Top returning players for the Monarchs include redshirt senior B.J. Stith (14.2 ppg.), a guard, and senior guard Ahmad Caver (14.2 ppg).
Syracuse was 23-14 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 before a loss to Duke ended the campaign.
Boeheim, who ranks second in career wins among Division I mentors, is preparing for his 43rd season as Syracuse head coach.
Syracuse season tickets start at $250 and are available for sale on-line (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
