Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore Lucy Pearce is one of 13 women selected for Australia's U23 World Championships team becoming the second member of Syracuse's varsity eight crew selected for her national team's trial this year. Arianna Lee, who sits bow for the Orange, will head to the United States' U23 Team trials for sculling and is one of four ACC student athletes invited to the USA trials.
"As coaches here at Syracuse we have made it our mission to support the whole woman," said Head Coach Justin Moore. "It is very rewarding to see athletes in the program, like Lucy and Arianna, develop themselves into world-class performers. It is a great honor to have the opportunity to engage in the training and selection for one's national team. It is also our goal, when women from our program have opportunities like these, to ensure that they will represent the university very well through action and word."
Pearce is in her second year at 'Cuse and has been a staple on the varsity eight sitting primarily in the No. 3 seat since arriving in Syracuse. As a freshman, she helped the Orange secure their highest ranking (No. 12) in the US Rowing/CRCA Coaches' Poll since 2012.
"Recently, Natalie Mastracci and Hattie Taylor were outstanding representatives of the University and our program with the Canadian Olympic Team and the Great Britain U23 Team," added Moore. "We have no doubt that Arianna and Lucy will continue to represent Syracuse extremely well with the U.S. Team and Rowing Australia.
