Paige Stoner broke the Syracuse 5000-meter record and Justyn Knight turned in another one of the fastest collegiate times ever at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Thursday night.
In a meet that featured some of the world's top distance competition, Stoner finished second in her section, crossing the line in 15:41.26, a mark which bested Sarah Pagano's school record by over seven seconds from 2014. Caroline Kurgat of Alaska Ancorage narrowly edged Stoner at the line with a time of 15:41.21.
Knight raced in the top section of the men's 5k, finishing third with a time of 13:18.74. His time is the 10th fastest in NCAA history. This is Knight's second time in the top-10 all-time on the 5000-meter list, joining Lawi Lalang (2012/2014) as the only other runner with two times in the top-10.
JRS Sports Management's Henrik Ingebrigsten won the race in 13:16.97, while Nike's Riley Masters took second (13:16.97). Knight was a full three seconds over the next-fastest collegian -Â Andy Trouard of Northern Arizona.
Knight and Stoner will next take on the ACC Championships in Miami next weekend.
