SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team just got stronger with the addition of rising-junior Anonda Hoppner. The forward spent the first two years of her collegiate career just down the road at in-state rival Colgate.
A native of Carp, Ontario, Hoppner played in 68 games for the Raiders, tallying six goals and 10 assists in her two years at Colgate. During the 2017-18 season, Hoppner posted a multi-point game against New Hampshire with a goal and an assist in the outing and finished the year with a plus-three rating.
Prior to her time at Colgate, Hoppner was a part of the 2015-16 Hockey Canada U18 team, posting a goal in the series against the United States. She is a two-time Team Canada U18 Strength and Conditioning Camp member and represented Ontario at the U18 Nationals.
Hoppner spent her formative years with the Ottawa Lady Senators organization, including serving as an alternate captain during the 2015-16 season. In her last season with the Lady Sens, Hoppner posted 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in the regular season before tacking on an addition 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in tournament play.
Standing tall at 5 feet 11 inches, the forward adds some height to the offense, becoming the fourth current Orange forward to eclipse the 5 foot 10 inches mark.
Hoppner and the rest of the Orange are just over three months away from taking the ice in the season opener at Boston College on Saturday, October 6.
The 2018-19 team returns 16 letterwinners from the 2017-18 campaign and the returning members account for 70 percent of the scoring from last season.
