It's no secret that the Carrier Dome is one of the most iconic venues in the sport of lacrosse and that the fan support in Central New York is second-to-none, but the annual NCAA attendance numbers highlighted that point once again for 2018 as Syracuse once again was the most-watched lacrosse team in the country.
The Orange led the nation in total attendance by over 15,000 fans and led the nation in average game attendance by more than 1,000 fans as well. 'Cuse has finished first or second in attendance every year since the NCAA began keeping the statistic.
In total attendance, Syracuse saw 41,947 fans pack the Dome this season – 15,107 fans ahead of No. 2 Albany, who also hosted 10 home games. Maryland (25,344), Virginia (23,296) and Johns Hopkins (21,269) round out the top-five in total attendance.
'Cuse also boasted the largest per-game crowd by a wide margin as well, as 4,195 fans saw the Orange play on average. Maryland (3,168) ranked second, while Army West Point (3,038), Albany (2,684) and Johns Hopkins (2,659) round out the top-five in succession.
This season also put the Orange over 1,400,000 fans through Carrier Dome turnstiles all-time in the 277 games that have been played there.
Season Tickets for the 2019 season will go on sale the first week in July, with fans who renew or purchase new season tickets eligible for special benefits. The Orange will welcome 2018 NCAA runner-up Duke and ACC rival Virginia to the Carrier Dome in 2019, as well as boast another entertaining and challenging non-conference slate at home. 'Cuse will also welcome back a wealth of experience in 2019, as the 2018 team had just five players in their final year of eligibility – a record low in the modern era of Syracuse lacrosse.
