SYRACUSE, N.Y. - With the first regular season game just over three months away, the Syracuse ice hockey team has elected its captains for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Â
After finishing the 2017-18 season as alternate captains, rising senior Allie Munroe and rising-redshirt junior Lindsay Eastwood will take on the role of co-captains for 2018-19 campaign. Rising-redshirt senior Brooke Avery will wear the "A" on her sweater, serving as an alternate captain during the season.
Â
"We are very excited with our leadership group for the upcoming 18-19 season," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Allie, Lindsay and Brooke have worked extremely hard to garner respect from their teammates and deserve the distinction to be chosen to lead our team."
Â
Avery, the lone forward of the trio, led the Orange in goals last season, netting 14 scores in 36 games played. A pinpoint sniper, the redshirt senior posted the second-highest shot percentage (minimum 10 shots) on the team at .182, which is good for fourth in the College Hockey America conference.
Â
Eastwood and Munroe anchor the Orange on defense, combining for 95 blocked shots in 2017-18, ranking third and fourth on the team, respectively. The most productive defenseman on the team, Eastwood led the team in assists (19) and added four goals to bring her point total to 23.
Â
In just 29 games played, Munroe posted 13 points (four goals and nine assists), including the game-winning goal against RIT on February 9.Â
Â
In total, the three leaders for the upcoming season accounted for almost 30 percent of the scoring from 2017-18.
Â
"Individually they all exhibit a strong sense of character and maturity as leaders," said Flanagan. "Collectively, they possess an enthusiastic passion for our program."
