ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced yesterday that they have signed former Syracuse offensive tackle Jamar McGloster as a free agent. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Â
McGloster appeared in 30 games for the Orange from 2014-17. He started 24 games in a row at right tackle his last two seasons.
Â
As a senior last fall, McGloster was second on the team with 1,034 snaps played. He tallied 12 knockdown blocks and aided a Syracuse offense that ranked third in the ACC in total offense (456.3 ypg) and second in passing (294.8 ypg). Following the season, McGloster earned an invitation to the 2018 East-West Shrine Game. Â
Â
McGloster entered the NFL earlier this year as an undrafted rookie free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. He was waived by the 49ers last week.
Â
The Lions are in their first season under new coach Matt Patricia, who served as a graduate assistant for the Orange from 2001-03.
Â
There is no shortage of Syracuse connections on Patricia's staff. In addition to himself, Paul Pasqualoni (defensive coordinator), Brian Stewart (defensive backs), Steve Gregory (defensive assistant), David Walker (running backs), Chris White (tight ends), David Corrao (director of football research), Dave Uyrus (regional scout) and Erik Kunttu (director of video operations) all previously played, coached, or worked at Syracuse.
Â
Detroit opens its preseason schedule Aug. 10 against the Oakland Raiders.
