SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team wrapped up its second week of fall camp on Sunday. With nine practices and one scrimmage under its belt, Syracuse is about halfway through its preseason. The team will hold eight more practices and another scrimmage before officially turning the page to preparation for the Aug. 31 opener at Western Michigan.
Â
DEFENSE UP 1-0
Head coach Dino Babers said the defense definitely had the upper hand in Saturday's opening scrimmage. Coordinator Brian Ward's unit forced three turnovers and logged seven sacks.
Â
Offensively, the Orange scored four touchdowns, including a 52-yard run by freshman quarterback Chance Amie.

During the Connecticut game on Sept. 22, Syracuse Athletics and the football program will recognize one of the greatest players in school history – all-time leading rusher Joe Morris. The Ayers, Mass. native will have his No. 47 jersey raised to the rafters against the Huskies, becoming just the fifth player in school history so honored (No. 44 is also retired).
