MOBILE Ala. – Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey and defensive tackle Chris Slayton were named to the watch list for the 2019 Reese's Senior Bowl on Thursday, Aug. 23. The 70th Reese's Senior Bowl will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. and televised on NFL Network.
Â
The watch list features more than 350 student-athletes, including 45 from the Atlantic Coast Conference, looking to fill the 110 roster spots that make up the North and South squads for the nation's premier all-star game.
Â
A member of the watch lists for the Maxwell Award (nation's top player) and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (top senior quarterback), Dungey is the only FBS signal caller with 6,000+ passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards. He holds or shares 12 Syracuse records and ranks fourth in conference history in total offense yards per game (296.6). In addition, Dungey is the ACC active career leader in quarterback rushing yardage (1,239), touchdown passes (40), total offense (7,711 yards) and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (20).
Â
Last season, Dungey led the ACC in completions per game (25.0) and ranked second in the conference in total offense (343.3 ypg) and passing (277.2 ypg). In nine games, he completed 225-of-377 (59.3 pct.) passes for 2,495 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 595 yards and nine scores.
Â
A preseason All-ACC selection by multiple media outlets, Slayton is the Orange's active leader in games started (29), tackles for loss (24.5), sacks (6) and forced fumbles (4). He totaled 28 tackles a season ago, including 8.5 for losses, one sack, one forced fumble and one blocked kick. For his career, Slayton has 83 tackles in 36 games.
Â
Since 1954, Syracuse has had 57 players receive Senior Bowl invitations, including punter Riley Dixon in 2016 and wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo in 2017.
Â
Dungey, Slayton and the rest of the Orange kick off the season next Friday at Western Michigan. Syracuse's first home game is Saturday, Sept. 8 versus Wagner.
