SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women's ice hockey senior defenseman Allie Munroe is one of 59 national team hopefuls who will attend Hockey Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival. The prestigious invite-only event, held in Dawson Creek, B.C., is an annual training camp aimed at helping develop and evaluate some of the nation's top female hockey players.
The training camp gets started with practices Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Encana Events Center and concludes with a game Sunday, Sept. 16. National team prospects will be split in two teams – red and white - where players will be evaluated based off competition and performance against local teams.
Munroe, the Yarmouth, N.S., native, earned an invite to Hockey Canada's National Women's Development Team Selection Camp back in early August, where she participated in intrasquad games and practices. She also completed fitness testing, off-ice training and attended classroom sessions while vying for a spot on the Development Team's final roster.
Munroe was ultimately named to Canada's National Women's Development Team's final roster in mid-August and participated with the team in its three-game series against the United States, Aug. 16-19 in Calgary, Alberta.
At Syracuse, Munroe was named to the All-College Hockey America Second Team as a junior and earned the CHA Best Defenseman Award along with All-Conference First Team honors as a sophomore.
