
Harris, Whitner Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Syracuse football's Kielan Whitner and field hockey's Stephanie Harris are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 3.

Whitner, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., is pursuing a degree in finance from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. He is a 2015 All-Academic ACC honoree as well as a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection. Whitner also serves as the public relations director for the Syracuse chapter of Uplifting Athletes.

The linebacker has played in 35 of 37 career games including a start in Friday's victory at Western Michigan. Whitner notched a career-high six tackles as well as a 20-yard interception return in the fourth quarter at WMU.

Harris is a junior from South Riding, Va. who is pursuing a degree in psychology. She was selected to the 2017 ZAG Field Hockey NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Harris made her second career start at No. 15Stanford and recorded one shot in Syracuse's 2-1 overtime victory. Earlier this summer Harris played in the USA Field Hockey 2018 Young Women's National Championship, an annual event that features some of the most elite field hockey athletes in the country.

Whitner and the Syracuse football team are set for the 2018 home opener Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m. against Wagner in the Carrier Dome. Tickets start at $20 and are available online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).

Harris and the No. 10 field hockey team conclude their road trip Friday against No. 7 Virginia before returning home Sunday, Sept. 9 to host No. 1 Connecticut at 1 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium with free admission.
